Работа над фильмом шла в течение восьми лет. Адам Эллиот выступил не только режиссером, но также и сценаристом и продюсером картины.

В ходе пресс-конференции Адам рассказал, что изначально основным персонажем мультфильма планировалась божья коровка, но потом решил, что нужно использовать более интересное и необычное существо, которое не так часто используется в кинематографе. Также были раскрыты творческие планы режиссера на будущее: «Я продолжил снимать и планирую в ближайшее время снять еще один фильм. Надеюсь порадовать вас уже в течение двух лет картиной в похожем формате». По поводу производственного процесса Адам рассказал, что в фильме нет никакой компьютерной графики, даже такие мелкие детали как огонь и слезы были сделаны вручную из таких материалов, например, как кусочки бумаги, вата или лубрикант. Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.
